Polish backup and disaster recovery for VMware, Hyper-V, servers, endpoints and Microsoft 365 with an EU region option
Review by EuropeanStack EditorialUpdated Verified
Xopero ONE is a well-scoped backup platform for organisations that still run VMware or Hyper-V and want a European vendor with a genuine EU hosting option. Its consolidated coverage of VMs, servers, endpoints, NAS and Microsoft 365 is the strongest part of the offer. Ownership is also clean: Xopero is a Polish founder-led S.A., and Warsaw Equity Group invested more than PLN 20 million; the register's share series suggests a minority stake, which is our inference.
Xopero ONE is a unified backup and disaster recovery platform from Xopero Software S.A. in Gorzów Wielkopolski, Poland. It protects VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines, Windows and Linux servers, endpoints, NAS and Microsoft 365 from one console, with immutable, zero-trust-style storage. Customers can choose EU or US infrastructure. The company also runs GitProtect, a separate backup brand for GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Jira.

Most coverage of the VMware exodus assumes the destination is an open-source hypervisor. Plenty of companies are making a quieter move: they stay on VMware or Hyper-V for now, shorten their renewal commitments and replace the surrounding tools first. Backup is an obvious candidate, since it is easy to swap without touching production, and that is the use case where Xopero ONE fits.
Xopero ONE is a unified backup and disaster recovery platform from Xopero Software S.A., based in Gorzów Wielkopolski in western Poland. It protects VMware and Hyper-V virtual machines, Windows and Linux servers, workstations on Windows, Linux and macOS, NAS devices and Microsoft 365 from one console. The company's DevOps backup arm, sold as GitProtect for GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Jira, is a separate brand and not the subject of this review.
Xopero dates its start to 2009. Its current joint-stock entity (KRS 0000684240) was created in 2017 by converting an earlier limited company. Founder Łukasz Jesis is CEO. In September 2024, Warsaw Equity Group invested more than PLN 20 million, with the option to extend to PLN 30 million, alongside two individual co-investors. Share-series data suggests the original holders still own roughly 73% of shares, which would make the investor a minority, although that is our inference from the register and not a confirmed figure. We found no US parent. The company says it employs over 100 specialists across six offices.
It protects virtual machines, physical servers, endpoints, NAS and Microsoft 365 from a single console. That breadth is the core differentiator against single-purpose tools. A company with 40 laptops, a Hyper-V cluster, a NAS and a Microsoft 365 tenant can use one product, one policy model and one invoice. Keepit covers only SaaS; Xopero covers both, though with less depth on the SaaS side than a specialist.
Xopero markets a multi-layer architecture it calls SphereCyberX, built on data isolation, immutable storage, replication and a single-write repository design. In plain terms, backups are written once and cannot be altered by a compromised production system. The company also offers a Unified Protection appliance and the Sphere Recovery Drive, aimed at industrial and OT environments where a standard agent install is awkward.
On its homepage, Xopero states the platform meets NIS2, GDPR, ISO/IEC 27001, HIPAA and SOC 2 requirements. That wording is not the same as holding a certificate, and the page names no auditor or certificate number.
Xopero lets customers pick a US or European region. Its terms of service say that if Europe is selected, all services are provided on European infrastructure only, and the data processing agreement lists EU/EEA sub-processors for that case. Named European infrastructure providers include Asseco Data Systems in Poland, OVH, Leaseweb, DMTEC, Vultr and Wasabi, with Cloudflare used as a global CDN. The sub-processor list also includes AWS and Azure for multi-region deployments.
In practice, EU residency is available and contractually backed, but it is a setting, not a default. Teams must choose it deliberately.
Backups can go to Xopero's own cloud, on-premises disk or third-party object storage including AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, Wasabi and Backblaze. Recovery options include granular restore and cross-platform instant disaster recovery. A company that wants hybrid storage, with a local copy for speed and an off-site copy for resilience, can configure that in one policy.
Here is the gap. On the pages we reviewed, Xopero's published virtualisation support names VMware and Hyper-V. We did not find Proxmox, Nutanix AHV, XCP-ng or OpenStack listed. Teams planning to move to Proxmox should ask Xopero directly, because the product may support more than the marketing pages show, and we cannot confirm either way.
Price discovery runs entirely through partners. The how-to-buy page lists distributors and resellers by region and sends visitors to a quote form. None of the material we could access shows a per-device, per-terabyte or per-workload figure, and no trial terms are stated.
That puts Xopero in the same bracket as Acronis and Keepit, where a quote is the only path, and behind vendors that publish at least a starting price. For a small business wanting to compare ten tools in an afternoon, quote-only pricing is a real tax on time.
The sister brand GitProtect publishes its own pricing on a separate site, which adds to the confusion about what a single Xopero contract covers. Before buying, confirm in writing whether Microsoft 365, DevOps and infrastructure protection are separate line items.
A reasonable procurement approach is to request a pilot, list the exact workloads in scope, and ask for pricing at both your current size and 50% growth. Because the vendor sells through partners, regional resellers may offer different bundles.
Xopero Software S.A. is a Polish company bound by GDPR and Polish law, with no US parent found in its terms, data processing agreement or sub-processor list. The EU region option and the named European sub-processors make a clear sovereignty case when selected.
Two caveats apply. The US region exists and uses US-hosted infrastructure, so a misconfigured tenant could sit outside Europe. And the sub-processor list includes global providers such as AWS, Azure and Cloudflare for specific functions. Regulated buyers should confirm which of those apply to their chosen region and which data they touch.
For NIS2 and DORA obligations, immutable storage and tested recovery are the relevant capabilities, and Xopero's architecture is aimed squarely at them. Until an audit report backs them, the compliance statements remain marketing language, and a due-diligence questionnaire is the place to test them.
If you run VMware or Hyper-V plus servers, endpoints and Microsoft 365 and want one European vendor for all of it, Xopero ONE fits. Small and mid-sized IT teams without a dedicated backup engineer will benefit most from the consolidated console.
If you must keep backup data in Europe, choose Xopero with the European region explicitly selected, and verify the setting in your contract. Teams moving to Proxmox, Nutanix or OpenStack should choose Storware or SEP sesam instead, because both publish support for those platforms. Where the same agent should also handle anti-malware and patching, Acronis covers ground Xopero does not.
Buyers wanting a hosted-only product for SaaS alone will find Keepit purpose-built. On breadth of supported platforms alone, Veeam is still ahead.

Against that sit hidden pricing, no advertised Proxmox or Nutanix support, opt-in EU residency, compliance claims without named certificates and a confusing split between Xopero ONE and GitProtect. For the most open-platform VMware exits, look at Storware first. A conservative, hypervisor-stable shop that wants to cut its Veeam dependence should pilot Xopero. Not on the pages we reviewed. Xopero's published virtualisation support names VMware and Hyper-V, with servers, endpoints, NAS and Microsoft 365 alongside. Teams moving to Proxmox, Nutanix AHV or XCP-ng should confirm support with Xopero in writing before shortlisting.
For VMware and Hyper-V estates that also need server, endpoint and Microsoft 365 backup, yes, and its EU region option helps sovereignty-minded buyers. Veeam supports more platforms and has far larger partner and community networks. Xopero pricing is quote-only.
Customers can select a US or European region. According to the terms of service, selecting Europe means all services run on European infrastructure only. The data processing agreement lists EU infrastructure sub-processors including Asseco Data Systems, OVH and Leaseweb. EU hosting is therefore available, not automatic.
Xopero ONE protects infrastructure and endpoints: VMs, servers, NAS, workstations and Microsoft 365. GitProtect is a sister brand focused on DevOps platforms such as GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket and Jira, with its own pricing and website.
